Since I have nothing better to do, some teal deer

I'm overall really enjoying it, though I am currently so stuck on the end of Act 2 boss fight that I have (unsuccessfully) tried installing cheats. But given that I got frustrated with the DA combat in the Tower of Ishall I guess that's actually a compliment (yes, I'm already on casual, hush :P). I would have played further but Cam liked the look of it so much he's playing it too and I have to share the PC :) His main complaint with DA:O was the combat and he is MUCH happier with it in this game (he's a mage I'm a rogue). I like it more too, apart from this one goddamn fight I intend the finish the game with no cheats (first time through, anyway).

I have come to terms with the steamlining/simplifiying/railroading, the only thing I genuinely miss is the ability to have little random conversations with party members in the middle of nowhere. On the other hand the time controlled conversations means you don't run out of conversation 3/4 of the way through the game. I ADORE the new inventory system, the trash can is my second best friend after Aveline.

The voiced character is moderately well done, though the small number of ambiguous dialogue choices can be frustrating and it's not as funny as Origins (I'm not sure how much of that is the male voice actor)

The companions are ok and I'm ok with the way the romances have worked so far APART from the fact that flirting with Merril once early on later gave me a choice of saying something mean or saying something nice which (to my horrified surprise) led straight to sex (my character already has a boyfriend! who I went to great lengths to get to like him!) Anders is an abomination, though. I think I'd have rather romanced the old Justice.

Certain aspects of the plot, characterisation and world building bug me but I think I'll have to wait and see how they pan out. Having to play as a noble human and not getting to choose any backstory (not even two tickboxes a la Mass Effect) makes Hawke feel a bit generic at the beginning, as does the lack of many meaningful feeling choices. Not sure how different the game will feel on a replay with a mage with a different personality and gender.

Not sure how I feel about the changes to the elves and qunari from a meta point of view, though aesthetically I think they and the game overall look pretty good. The people are much less fugly in general. I really like that your family looks like you, but I tried it out with a really dark character and there's some contradictions in places eg the thought "Since when is my character's mother white?" distracted from some key scenes.

The sexism and objectification/victimisation of women is distractingly gross in some places, though there are some good female characters. Not a fan of Isabella being defined so much by her promiscuity and called "whore" a lot (she's a pirate! I want to hear her talk about pirating!)

I am already VERY VERY SICK of certain maps. That One Cave System has gone from "Oh how pretty" to "Ug. Time to root through these stupid side passages for torn trousers again", and it's a bit dull being stick in the same city 90% of the time.

That's all that comes to mind!

WOW I SUCK. I'm really sorry I took so long to reply to this, silly as it sounds I've been having Friending Related Anxiety. Anyway, friend away if my incredible slowness with comments hasn't put you off :)

I'm doing the Snowflake Challenge (http://akamine-chan.dreamwidth.org/251664.html) and I realized I never followed you, so... following you now! Hi! :)
